Proximity Learning Support -


Please make sure that all of the following items are installed and configured properly for all equipment and facilities students enrolled in Proximity Learning courses will use. After all systems have been setup, please contact to schedule a full systems test before the first day of class.


Required IP addresses, Ports, URLs and Firewall Exceptions:


The following IP addresses, ports, and domains must be fully accessible or white-listed:

Supported Platforms and Operating Systems

Proximity Learning courses utilize cloud-based systems and should work on any up-to-date Windows or Mac computer or Chromebook.  In general, any Windows or Mac computer purchased within the past two to three years with at least 2GB RAM should be sufficient.  4GB RAM or better is strongly recommended.  iOS, and Android mobile devices are partially supported at this time.

  • Windows: 
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 or later, Windows Edge browser, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome
    • 1.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or faster processor (or equivalent)
    • Windows 10, 8.1 (32-bit/64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit/64-bit)
    • 512 MB of RAM (1 GB recommended)
  • Mac:
    • Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome
    • 512 MB of RAM (1 GB recommended)
    • Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10, 10.11, and 10.12
    • 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo or faster processor
  • Chromebooks: Kept up-to-date with latest Chrome OS version.
  • iOS: iOS 8.1.2 or later
  • Android: Google Android 4.4 or later

Mobile Devices:

  • Apple supported devices: iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad with Retina display, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPad mini, and iPod touch (4th & 5th generations)
  • Android supported devices: Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Samsung Galaxy S3 & S4, Nexus 7 tablet

 Audio/Video Equipment

(Must be properly installed and working for each student):

  • Microphone/Headphones OR Combination Headset 
  • Webcam
  • Wired Internet connection or commercial-grade WiFi (Consumer-grade WiFi equipment is not sufficient)

(Microsoft brand headsets and webcams are NOT supported.  Low-cost Logitech brand headsets and webcams are recommended)

  • Headphones or ear-buds, and a microphone (most webcams have built in mics).  A headset with built-in mic is strongly recommended for an optimum live class experience. (Headsets are typically not required for Sign Language courses)
  • Webcam

Note:  Logitech webcams and headsets are recommended to ensure comparability and quality.  Microsoft brand headsets and webcams may work, but are not supported due to compatibility issues.


 Plug-Ins, Add-Ins and Applications: 

  1. Adobe Flash Player (most recent version):  Windows OR Macintosh
  2. Adobe Shockwave Player:
  3. Adobe Connect Application (Required for audio, shared whiteboard, etc.): Links For Success
  4. Extract and install the PinYin Editor (required for Pinyin with tone markers):  Windows
  5. Install Chinese IME (for typing Chinese Characters): Windows 7 or Vista

(The PinYin editor and Chinese IME are only required for students enrolled in Chinese language courses)
